Frager's T-Shirts are a Hit!
The Washington Post reported last week about the hottest item at Frager's Hardware - besides the hardware that is - the iconic Frager's t-shirt.
" More than 1,300 size-large T-shirts ($10) were sold last year. Sure, that is a paltry number compared with the 6,000 keys the store copies in one month. But for a hardware store that in one year sells about 500 white toilet seats, 120 hammers and 25 ladders, the shirt has been an unexpectedly strong seller. "

Interview with Mark Barinholtz
Check out this video by Todd C. Wiggins to see an interview with Capitol Hill resident and artist Mark Barinholtz, winner and designer of the bright green Eastern Market artistic bike rack.
The DC Creates Public Art Artistic Bike Rack proposal invited local artists to enhance the city’s standard bike racks and create unique designs that could be placed in locations city-wide. Artists were encouraged to incorporate their interpretation of the “DC experience” into their artwork as well as consider particular locations for the placement of the work. The intent of the project is to encourage more people to use bicycles and increase the number of bike racks throughout the city that are both functional and artistic.

Mayor Fenty Announces Reopening of Renovated Eastern Market
Mayor Adrian M. Fenty will reopen the historic Eastern Market at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, June 26 followed by a community celebration on Saturday, June 27. The two events will mark the completion of the market’s renovation and recovery from fire damage caused in April 2007.
“Capitol Hill community members deserve a fully restored market and it has been my Administration’s priority all along that they get exactly that.” - Mayor Fenty
“I’m thrilled that Eastern Market is on the verge of reopening. The devastating fire was a blow to our whole community, but the way in which the city rallied around the Market as more than just a building proved how important it is to the fabric of our neighborhood."
- Councilmember Tommy Wells.

Ready, Willing & Working Update
Fourteen months after creating “Ready, Willing & Working” (RWW) the Capitol Hill BID is recording successes similar to those seen in the 20-year-old New York program it is modeled after – The Doe Fund's “Ready, Willing & Able." Sixty percent of the original RWW Clean Team are still clean and sober, have permanent housing and are contributing members of society. Now with 13 formerly homeless or incarcerated men on the team, not one member has been lost in over 8 months. RWW plans to expand its program to serve 100-200 individuals at a time and will be actively seeking contracts with Main Streets and other DC BIDs.
Ready, Willing & Working is a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation that empowers men to break the cycles of homelessness, welfare dependency and criminal recidivism through a paid-work rehabilitation program offering holistic programs and supportive services that allow individuals to achieve permanent self-sufficiency.
